Grandmother of the Bride
Grandmother of the Bride
What a wonderful day to plan for - your granddaughter is getting married!
No doubt, it feels only just a few moments ago that you first held your baby granddaughter in your arms. Yet as the bride's grandmother, this will be a very special day. And your role as a key family member put you in a very special place, close to the bride's heart.
Whether you're a gran, grandma, nan, nanna, oma or mormor, you're sure to be an important guest at this wedding!
With so many photographs taken on a wedding day, you're sure to want to look your very best - so getting the right outfit, accessories and hairstyle are all so very important.
One thing you may soon find is that weddings are far more complicated and expensive to organise, than they were when you got married !
Nowadays, it's not uncommon for the great grandmother of the bride or groom to be present at the wedding - making for four generations of one family being present for this special occasion.
How To Dress For the Grandmother of the Bride
Depending on your country & culture, it may be appropriate etiquette for the grandmother of the bride to wear a dress & jacket, two piece suit or outfit, or pant suits.
Certainly it's still expected that formal wear is the order of the day - wedding etiquette requires guests to get out of their casual clothing to put on clothing that is rather more formal and elegant.
Traditionally the grandmother wears a dress & jacket, or a two piece suit in matching colors. These are usually complemented by a church-style hat and court shoes or sandals, together with matching accessories, such as a purse or clutch bag.
Which of these clothing choices you opt for will depend on your own personal fashion style - as well as what styles will most flatter your shape and height.
For instance, a petite gran could look fabulous in a simple shift dress with a bolero. A curvy plus size grandma could look elegant in a dress and jacket. The key is to work out your budget, then plan a shopping trip to the department store or a weddings outfit boutique and try on a range of styles.
Taking a friend can be a very helpful way of getting honest and impartial advice - they can also take photos which can help you reflect on what styles and colors are really working for you.
To finish off your outfit, you'll need to finish off with shoes, purse and hat or fascinator.
Have a wonderful & special day!
